Office of Academic Support Services

The Office of Academic Support Services (O.A.S.S.) was established in 2003 to help maximize the academic success and persistence to graduation of all students. The office provides focused services for low-income students, first generation students, students with disabilities, and students typically underrepresented in higher education.

Services for Low-Income, First Generation, and Underrepresented Students

In keeping with its mission to provide students with the educational, professional, social, and emotional foundation necessary for them to embark on successful careers and productive lives as artists, leaders and citizens, The Juilliard School is committed to maintaining an artistic community that is geographically, economically, and ethnically diverse. O.A.S.S. contributes to this mission by focusing on the needs of individual students and offering academic support, special advising, and other services, with the goal of helping students maximize their learning opportunities and assisting them in their personal growth.

Services for Students with Disabilities

The goal of the O.A.S.S. is to work in partnership with students, faculty, and administrators to provide reasonable accommodations and supportive services to qualified students with disabilities. O.A.S.S. provides confidential services for students with permanent or temporary disabilities to ensure that all Juilliard programs, activities, services and facilities are accessible, and are in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and other relevant state and federal legislation. Juilliard strives to provide students who can meet the academic and technical standards for admission to and participation in its programs an opportunity to do so with or without educational auxiliary aids or other reasonable accommodations that are necessary to permit a student with disabilities the opportunity to gain a Juilliard education. In view of the unique nature of Juilliard's specialized programs, challenging issues may arise in determining accommodations; these situations will require thoughtful and creative analysis to preserve the integrity of the Juilliard educational program and its close association to the standards of the performing arts profession while fulfilling the mandate of the law.

Contact Information

Joan Warren, vice president for enrollment management, serves as the central point of contact for information on physical and programmatic access, specific accommodations, resolution of complaints and problems, faculty and staff concerns, and identification of available services. The vice president will coordinate the provision of appropriate accommodations and/or academic adjustments on a case-by-case basis for persons with disabilities, who identify themselves, provide adequate documentation of their disability and need for accommodation, request services and complete the required forms. In addition, training, consultation, and information regarding disability issues is provided.

Students and faculty are encouraged to contact Ms. Warren by e-mail at jwarren@juilliard.edu or by phone at (212) 799-5000, ext. 213 for more information or to request assistance.
