The Department of Vocal Arts at Juilliard offers the finest and most complete education available. Juilliard's curriculum attends to the specific needs of singers at every stage of their education. At all levels of study—from undergraduate to pre-
professional—singers at Juilliard work with some of the most renowned professionals in their field to receive comprehensive training in the full range of vocal literature. Frequent and varied performance opportunities in opera, song, chamber music, and concert repertoire are tailored to allow singers to put their training to use from the moment they arrive at Juilliard.
Every singer receives private weekly lessons with a member of the School's renowned voice faculty. In addition, a network of vocal coaches provides individual guidance in musical style and interpretation. A basic grounding in analysis, history, and ear training is complemented by intense diction and repertoire study. The pursuit of vocal and musical excellence is enhanced through physical training, with classes in dance, movement, stagecraft, and Alexander Technique offered to students at all levels. Throughout their time at Juilliard, singers integrate their knowledge with the aim toward self-sufficiency and versatility. The course of study allows for the highest level of preparation and performance in anticipation of a professional career in music.
