Six distinguished artists and cultural leaders will be awarded honorary doctorates by The Juilliard School at its 103rd commenement ceremony on May 23 in Avery Fisher Hall.

Joel Smirnoff, the first violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet and chair of the violin department at The Juilliard School, has been appointed president of the Cleveland Institute of Music, effective July 1.
